There has been a recent increase in voice phishing (scam) calls impersonating the Canadian Embassy and Korean Consulates in Canada.
Scammers may:
❗ Make calls that appear to come from official embassy or consulate phone numbers
❗ Claim that you are involved in a crime (e.g. drug cases or court matters) to create fear
❗ Pretend to be police officers, prosecutors, court officials or consualte officers
❗ Ask you to visit fake websites, click links, or install apps (e.g. Telegram)
❗ Request personal or financial information (PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER OR SIN NUMBER)
Government offices never ask for personal or banking information by phone or messenger.
Do not click any links, download apps, or provide personal information.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately.
